Updated: Apr 28, 2021
From 6 to 8 April, DCAF's Asia-Pacific Unit is scheduled to host the workshop Policing during the Pandemic, based on the South Asian perspective on the changing roles of law enforcement during COVID-19. It is organized by the South Asia sub-regional network of DCAF’s Asia-Pacific SSG Network on Promoting Good Security Sector Governance in the Asia-Pacific Region.
The workshop participants will share experiences from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka on impacts of the pandemic and changing roles of law enforcement agencies, including issues regarding:
Operational and regulatory clarity regarding changing roles of law enforcement in health crisis preparedness and response;
Wellness and mental health of law enforcement officials and their families;
Gender-based violence, child protection and other human rights concerns such as appropriate use of force;
Emerging lessons and good practices.
Presentations and discussion will bring together a range of actors engaged in law enforcement and security sector governance in South Asia, including academics, representatives of non-government organizations, human rights bodies and law enforcement agencies in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Outcomes and lessons learned will contribute to development of guidance regarding law enforcement and policing in health crisis preparedness and response.
