South Asia SSG Forum

The first SSG Forum in Southeast Asia took place from 5 to 7 September 2019 in Dhulikhel, Nepal. With participants coming from all countries of the region, representing different institutions and security actors, the forum provided an opportunity for open discussions about security sector reform in South Asia.

Important topics that were discussed in this very first sub-regional SSG Forum included gender and security, cybersecurity and cybersecurity governance challenges, disaster preparedness and disaster risk management, legal framework for security actors, climate change, preventing/countering violent extremism, and border control. Sessions were based on the various national contributions, but also on common SSG challenges and priorities, and sharing best practices on specific themes. The forum ended with a brainstorming session about the future of the network. For the detailed forum report, see the link to the PDF below.

The forum marked the very first sub-regional forum organised in the Asia-Pacific region by DCAF's Asia-Pacific Unit.
