Today marked the second NWG meeting in Nepal, organised in Kathmandu by the Nepal Centre for Security Governance (NCSG) as DCAF's partner institution in Nepal. Fifteen participants representing think tanks, the police, academia, the armed police force and the armed forces were present.
The meeting provided a platform to discuss two bills governing the police that have recently been introduced in the Federal Parliament of Nepal. Participants discussed the extent to which their input had been translated into the draft bills, and the challenges that surround the improvement of SSG in Nepal's police institutions. Several concrete recommendations and amendments were proposed, specifically on the role of provincial authorities in policing.
