This Saturday March 6th was the occasion for the second national working group meeting at the AmCam Exchange in Phnom Penh. Seven participants were present, representing media, universities and research institutes, and CSOs.
The meeting provided a platform for participants to brainstorm about challenges and opportunities for security sector governance in Cambodia. Topics discussed included the role of the armed forces and the police in combatting COVID-19, the role of social media (notably during COVID-19), cybersecurity and the government proposal for an internet gateway to control the flow of data, maritime security, and the legal framework in place during COVID-19. The idea was raised and discussed of a comparative study on internet gateways in practice, and the implications thereof for the flow of information, media, and cybersecurity.
