Second NWG meeting in Bangladesh
Today was the occasion for the second NWG meeting in Bangladesh. The meeting was attended by thirteen participants, representing institutions that include the police, paramilitary forces, NGOs, newspapers, the supreme court and legal professionals, intelligence services, and academia.
The meeting was dominated by the topic of COVID-19, and its effect on the security sector and security provision. The role of the Bangladesh police was discussed at length, but also the activities of armed forces, border security, the prison system, and the intelligence agencies were discussed. Other subjects that were discussed included inclusiveness, capacity-building, rule of law, accountability, transparency, the relationship between media and security, and participative governance.
