First National Working Group meeting in Nepal
The first NWG meeting in Nepal was held today. Twenty participants from various organisations came together, including with backgrounds in the Nepal armed forces, the Nepal Police, the National Investigation Department, diplomacy, civil society activists, researchers, and members of parliament.
An important part of the discussion focused on the changes that are needed in the proposed bill for the "Role and Responsibilities of the National Security Council (NSC), before being tabled at the Federal Parliament of Nepal. Concerns about oversight for decisions to mobilise the Nepal Army were discussed, as well as wider discussions about the role of security institutions in Nepal's recently established federal structure. Other themes included the role of the media in information provision.
