- Topic: Good Governance of the Security Sector in Southeast Asia: What Role for Parliaments?

- Start: 15 Sep 2016

- End: 16 Sep 2016

- Siem Reap, Cambodia

After the first IPF-SSG workshop took place in Siem Reap, Cambodia, in 2006, the IPF-SSG was hosted every year in a different Southeast Asian state. In 2016, on the occasion of the Forum’s tenth anniversary, the IPF-SSG will return to Siem Reap from 15-16 September. The tenth anniversary workshop of the IPG-SSG will examine the role of parliaments in the good governance of the security sector of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member states.

The objectives of the workshop are to contribute to the following:

• To promote experience-sharing on the good governance of the security sector among ASEAN member states;

• To increase awareness and expertise of parliamentarians of ASEAN member states about their functions and powers and the tools and mechanisms at their disposition to effectively oversee the security sector; and

• To inspire and facilitate national security sector governance activities in ASEAN member states.

The workshop is organized by the Cambodian Institute for Cooperation and Peace (CICP) in cooperation with the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF) and the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) and with the support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

The 10th Anniversary Workshop is being organized by the Cambodian Institute for Cooperation and Peace (CICP), in cooperation with DCAF and FES, and with the support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
